Everything is just right, coincidentally meeting you

The real estate industry has experienced rapid development, driving the growth of building materials products. At the same time, due to the widespread application of home decoration in construction, the development momentum of related supporting products has also been soaring, resulting in an increasing demand for flooring, which has to some extent driven China's flooring decoration industry.

The flooring industry is considered a small industry in the home furnishing industry, but it has never lacked new voices, from the "E0 controversy" to the "Oudian incident" and then to the "thickness dispute". The flooring industry seems to always have a restless heart. Only by continuously introducing new technologies and drawing consumers' attention to this industry can the flooring industry firmly establish itself in the hearts of consumers.

Consumers have a series of doubts about the mainstream issue of floor thickness in the current market, but they are mainly focused on the following points: the relationship between floor thickness and formaldehyde, the relationship between floor thickness and comfort, and the relationship between floor thickness and price.

Common thicknesses of mainstream flooring

The traditional thickness of solid wood flooring is 18mm, and there are also 15mm, 20mm, or 22mm, but very few.

The thickness of solid wood composite flooring is more than 12mm, and the thickness of large-sized flooring (such as width above 145mm) is more than 18-22mm.

The thickness of reinforced flooring is mostly 12mm, while 8mm is mainly concentrated in narrow boards.

The theory of thickness of solid wood composite flooring

Solid wood composite flooring: It is made by interlocking and laminating boards of different tree species, which to some extent overcomes the disadvantages of wet expansion and shrinkage of solid wood flooring. The dry shrinkage and wet expansion rate is small, it has good dimensional stability, and retains the natural wood grain and comfortable foot feel of solid wood flooring.

The thickness of solid wood composite flooring is generally available in two types: 12mm and 15mm. The cost of these two thicknesses of solid wood composite flooring is slightly higher, but the foot feel is slightly better, which is a normal specification. There is another type of 18mm solid wood composite flooring, but there is no need to buy 18mm solid wood composite flooring. The thickness of the surface layer of solid wood composite flooring is an important factor in determining its service life. The thicker the surface panel, the longer the damage resistance time and the easier it is for paint decoration and repair.

Viewpoint 1:

The thickness and thinness of reinforced flooring are not related to the quality of the flooring.

Reinforced flooring, regardless of its thickness, should meet the quality standards for flooring. Both domestically and internationally, there are unqualified "five inferior boards" that are "thick" and "thin". "Thick" and "thin" mainly refer to the thickness dimensions of the substrate. Density, internal bonding strength, water absorption thickness, expansion rate, static bending strength, formaldehyde emission, and other indicators are all independent of thickness and thinness. There is no quality issue with 'thin' or 'thick'.

Viewpoint 2:

The thickness and thinness of laminated wood flooring are determined by consumers independently.

Consumers have the right to freely choose and purchase reinforced wood flooring with the slogan 'I spend money, I am free'! Due to various concepts, purposes, and economies. Various people have different choices to make, some choose "thick", some choose "thin", purely free, and everything develops according to market rules. What is worth paying attention to now is that there are too many dishonest, unscientific, and non-standard hype in marketing. Consumers do not need to be superstitious, the key is to choose the thickness of laminate flooring according to their own needs.

Viewpoint 3:

The thickness and thinness of reinforced wood flooring have a relatively small impact on improving foot feel.

The foot feel of laminate flooring is poor compared with other floors, mainly due to two reasons: first, the stiffness of the base material is high and the density is high; second, the cushion under suspension paving is too thin, which used to be 3mm foam cushion, but now some are only 1.2mm.

Relying solely on increasing the thickness of reinforced flooring to improve foot feel is "twice the effort and half the result", and will not achieve significant results. Currently, the market has seen the use of methods such as laying wooden floor keels or laying cork pads, polystyrene board (cushion treasure) pads, and other advanced cushion layers under reinforced flooring to effectively improve the foot feel of reinforced flooring. However, poor handling can also lead to noise problems!

Viewpoint 4:

The "thin" and "thick" of laminate flooring are more environmentally friendly than the "thick" ones.

Reasons include: global forest resources are becoming increasingly scarce, with a 50% increase in the thickness of reinforced flooring (from 8mm to 12mm), a significant increase in raw material consumption, and an increase in forest logging volume, which is detrimental to ecological balance. In the production of reinforced flooring, adhesive must be used, which may pose a formaldehyde hazard. If the adhesive used is not environmentally friendly, the thickness of the floor will increase, and the volume will inevitably increase, resulting in an increase in formaldehyde emissions.

Note: The thickness of solid wood flooring and the foot feel of solid wood composite flooring are related to thickness. Generally, the thicker the wooden flooring, the better the foot feel and the relatively more stable it is.
